Day 59 - Puerto Iguazu (continued)

Saturday, 11 October 2014

After this we went through the Lower Circuit, where we also saw the San Martin waterfalls, the Bossetti waterfalls, the Three Sisters waterfalls and many others, all at a distance, although one of the trail came pretty close to one of the waterfalls and I got wet trying to take pictures.

Then we climbed all the way down to the river, where I was to go on a boat ride through the waterfalls! It was really fun, the boat went through 2 waterfalls, and the second time we went really close so that I was soaking wet! Luckily I brought a change of clothes! After a quick change, I boarded an open air truck for about a half an hour ride through the jungle. Then lunch.

I bought a sandwich and was looking for a place to sit when this group of women that I guess comprised of 3 generations, called out to me. They recognised me as we were staying in the same hotel apparently, but I had no idea who they were. Still, they were nice enough to call out to me so I sat with them for a while and conversed with the child on the table in broken Spanish. I told you children are like cockroaches, they can sense that you don't like them and that is when they will irritate you with a million questions. I always seem to attract the attention of children for some strange reason, they really seem to like me. Children and cockroaches both.

After lunch we took the train (there is a train service included in the entrance fee, it is meant to take you to the Upper and Lower circuits which is where I went, and also to the trail leading to the Devil's Throat and the San Martin Island, but both of these were out of service at the moment) back to the entrance, and hopped on the van back to the hostel.

It was only about 3.30 pm and I had no idea what to do, so I washed some clothes and hung out at the reception where there is wifi. On my way back to my room, I met these 2 girls who were hanging out at the swimming pool, they are from Argentina and one of them is an English teacher so then I had a conversation with them for some time, and they invited me out for dinner and drinks with 2 other girls from Spain. Since I had nothing to do I agreed.

We left the hostel at about 9.30 pm. We had dinner which is piccada, a typical Argentinian dish usually had with beer and shared with friends. It is a combination of various pork cuts, calamari, cheese, French fries and bread. Quite nice and not too filling. Then we went to a bar for some drinks, and there were some good rock songs by an Argentinian band playing in the background, and I got their name and will check them out later whenever I have some time and good wifi. By the time I got to the hotel it was about 2.30 am! But it was fun to hang out and do some normal stuff for a change, instead of all the touristy stuff that I seem to be doing, and most of the time on my own.
