Day 50 - Santiago / on the road

Thursday, 2 October 2014

I had very little sleep last night, I went to bed at about 3 am and woke up at 7 am. Shower, breakfast, last minute packing, then I left the hostel and took a taxi to the bus station. Of course, I could have taken the metro but I had my 20 kg suitcase with me and I really wasn't in the mood to drag it up and down stairs and through automated gateways and all that. So a taxi it was.

At the bus station I changed all my remaining Chilean pesos into Argentinian pesos, I actually have no idea what the currency exchange rate is like, I will check it out as soon as I have Internet again. Then I boarded the bus that would take me to Buenos Aires, and we left at 10 am. Because I had very little sleep the last few nights, I went to sleep almost immediately as soon as I got on the bus.

At about 1.30 pm, we arrived at the customs and immigration depot, where our bags were checked, and we had to get stamped out of Chile and into Argentina. The woman at the Argentina counter reminded me of my first secretary, old and fussy and although she knew what she was doing, she was so slow! We only resumed our journey again at about 4 pm, making Argentina's customs and immigration the longest I have ever had to wait compared to Ecuador, Peru and Chile.

When we were on the bus again I watched 2 movies, Django Unchained and Argo. I actually liked Argo very much. Because I had slept this morning I thought I would have difficulties sleeping at night but no such thing happened. I booked the more comfortable seat on the bus, it is called 'cama' here and is downstairs (I always thought upstairs was more superior) and I reclined my seat, put my blanket on and went to sleep peacefully on the bus, somewhere in Argentina.
