I also saw the Cathedral which is also a mausoleum for San Martin, the Santo Domingo church which is also a mausoleum for Manuel Belgrano (I have no idea who he is), and the main square that is Plaza de Mayo. There are several ministries and embassies around the area as well. The buildings have old architectural designs and it was really nice to look at them.
Before returning to the hotel, we passed by the Obelisk and the Teatro Colon, which is an opera house in a grand looking building. The guide was also kind enough to point out to me a building designed by Cesar Pelli, the same Argentine architect who designed our Twin Towers.
At about 6.30 pm I arrived at my hotel. I walked around to look for local food, but all I could see around my hotel area was steak houses and pizzerias. In the end I gave in and bought a pizza. There is one thing I am quickly realizing in Argentina. I knew beforehand that Argentina had the best beef in the world, but what I didn't realize was that beef was so important to the Argentinians that when I tell them I don't eat beef, they immediately assume I am vegetarian. Whatever happened to seafood, chicken, pork etc?? It's quite funny because whenever I look at a menu, the waiters inevitably points out a steak dish to me, and when I tell them I don't eat beef their faces literally fall as if to say, "what's the matter with you? Now what do I feed you??" I always burst out laughing when this happens, and it happens often.
Upon my return to the hotel I did some reading up on Buenos Aires and I read that they had tours to ranches outside the city where one could see 'gauchos' (cowboys), their ranches and their way of life. I asked the hotel if they organized such tours and the girl at reception told me they did, and the price was ok so I booked a tour to the ranch for tomorrow.
Before going to bed I ensured that I updated my blogs for Easter Island, which took longer than expected because there was just so much interesting information to write down (you can tell if I'm really interested in a place by the length of my blog) and I finally went to bed at about 3 am. I have no idea how that happened, just that sometimes you get so wrapped up in something that you just have to finish it no matter the time.
