I was supposed to arrive in Puerto Iguazu at 2 pm, but for whatever reason I only arrived at about 3.15 pm. And the bus did not even stop anywhere for toilet breaks or to buy food or anything, only at the designated bus stops so I am not sure why the delay. When I arrived at the bus station, the first thing I noticed about Puerto Iguazu was that it is very hot and humid here! I think it's even more humid than Malaysia. First I went to the tourist information centre and obtained a map and some information from them. Then I went to look for my transport but there was no one there with my name on a card. So I went back to the tourist information centre and asked them for help. They very kindly contacted the local agent and was told that someone would be coming soon.
My transport arrived at 4 pm. I then went to my hostel, leaving my bottle of water and some snacks in the van that I was in. I really have to stop leaving stuff behind! Luckily it was just food and nothing more important. My room is huge, with 2 double decker beds downstairs and the toilet, and a double bed upstairs. Nice! After checking in I decided to walk to this place called Tres Fronteras, where the Rivers Iguazu and Parana meet to form the borders of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. From there, the River Parana flows into Argentina and Uruguay as the Rio de la Plata. It was about a 30 minute walk away from my hostel but what is a 30 minute walk these days for me?
I started walking at about 5.30 pm but only reached the place at about 6.15 pm thanks to wrong directions given by the girl at reception. It's a universal problem, girls and directions, although I must say I am getting so much better at it now. Also I think it's easier to find your way when you're walking because you can always turn around if you're headed in the wrong direction, whereas if you're driving it's a bit more complicated. We will see how my new found sense of directions work when I am back in Malaysia!
Anyway, once I got my bearings right I followed the map and didn't get lost thereafter. The Tres Fronteras is really a beautiful sight to see. Before reaching the rivers there is a small monument with 3 flags signifying the 3 countries divided by the river. And then the 2 rivers, and you can see Paraguay and Brazil in the near distance. It is an amazing sight, and I was happy to be there, even more so as the sun was setting over Paraguay. Then I started walking back to the hotel, and I didn't get lost at all! On the way I stopped for dinner - I chose a restaurant that had rice - it's funny, I can get tired of pizzas and pastas but I can never get tired of rice. I miss my fish and chicken curry though, can't wait to eat Indian food again!
