When I was 14 one of my friends at school introduced me to rock music. From thereon began my lifelong love for all things rock, my personal favorite being Guns n Roses. It is probably not a good idea for a teenager to listen to rock and heavy metal because I think it was just fuel to fire. What I learned from rock n roll was to never just take anything lying down, but to always challenge authority, stand up for what is right, and fight fight fight. As if I already wasn't hot tempered enough!
I bought a Kapok guitar for RM50 at some bookshop and taught myself how to play the guitar. It was easy for me because I already knew the basics of music through my piano lessons. Forget about pirates or astronauts or Indiana Jones! I wanted to be a rock star! (I still do) and I wanted to be the lead singer like Axl Rose. I think I can sing quite well, but that's just me.
Rock n roll music got me through some of the toughest times in my life. Even now, when the feeling of dread and hopelessness begins to creep in, I often listen to my music and I feel better. As long as I have music in my life I should be ok. I hope.
